China travel guides

Visas, payments, trains, timing and safety — the six things that decide whether the trip runs smoothly.

The short answer

British passport holders can enter China visa-free for up to 30 days until 31 December 2026 — no visa needed for a normal holiday. Set up Alipay or WeChat Pay before you fly, book high-speed rail 15 days ahead, and travel in April–May or September–October if you can choose.

Anything we haven't covered?

Send us your travel window, how many of you there are and what you want to see. We reply with a day-by-day plan and a price for those dates, within one working day.

  • A day-by-day plan with named hotels
  • A price for your exact dates, not a brochure figure
  • Free, with no obligation and no deposit
  • One advisor from first message to the flight home

What to include in your first message

  • Your travel window (a range is fine)
  • Cities you're interested in — or just say “surprise me”
  • How many are travelling, with children's ages
  • Anything that changes the plan: mobility, allergies, dietary needs
